Numerical simulation of wake interactions on a tandem wing configuration in high-speed stall conditions

Abstract In this work, the interaction of separated wake front wing with rear a tandem configuration is investigated for high-speed stall conditions by means hybrid RANS/LES simulations, using zonal AZDES method. After characterization transonic buffet on wing, development turbulent behind investigated. The then analyzed in detail. results reveal that there strong variation characteristics over cycle, caused varying amount separation wing. During upstream movement shock, flow largely separated, resulting thick strong, high-frequent fluctuations can be attributed to large vortices. On contrary, when shock travels downstream, only small present, thin comparatively low are corresponding smaller impact causes loading. An oscillation frequency distinguished from fluctuations. low-frequent downwash as its lift changes during cycle. due impingement structures onto Because both size and those vortices vary significantly within amplitude surface pressure also change accordingly.
